#23 The End

I have finally got around to officially finishing. I have learned so much and am trying to encourage my staff to take it up...with limited success. Over the holidays I am going to add more RAM to my desktop at home, as I feel I can go the next step having read about it on the net and seen a demonstration on You Tube, now that's confidence.... !!!

I would like to thank Christian for all his support and encouragement, especially for answering the most basic questions with tact and understanding.

#15 Web 2.0 Library

Well what can I say, I don't know why it has taken 15 weeks to get to this activity, I think it should have been one of the first... anyway I'm glad I finally read all the articals, some were a bit technical, but I particularly liked the idea that in the previous generation of libraries we were the keeper of the information, and our role was to try and anticipate what information our patrons needed or wanted. In this web 2.0 envrionment, that is no longer the case, our role is to connect our patrons to the information and I was thinking about the collection...which is dear to me that in the future our patrons could order material directly from suppliers, and it could be delivered in physical or electronic format, thus eleminating the need for vast library collections that we hoped our patrons will read/enjoy. The concept that web 2.0 will effect everything we do and that the library has a role in assisting our patrons is exciting and really a bit scary for someone my age. I think Rick Anderson's artical was the best as he went through what we have been doing and what we could potentially do using the web 2.0 technology. Dr Wendy Shultz's idea that the next phase is web 3.0D doesn't appeal to me and I think I will give it a miss, as I cannot get excited about the "second life", I'm flat out keeping up with this one, no thanks, more problems!!! i would rather jump to web 4.0, but I think by that stage I will have retired and working in my vegie garden....

#14 Technorati

I'm not quite sure how useful Technoarti is because bloggs can be a bit self indulgent and only of interest to family and friends, when I searched "Malta" they were travel bloggs with useless information such how someone missed their bus to the airport?? But I still managed to find one blogg that was interesting and an hour later I woke up and realised how and why I was on this persons blogg??? anyway it is interesting to know there is such a thing as technorati, even if the name isn't self explainatory???

#Delicious 13

Delicious...that is taking it too far, interesting perhaps?? Went to Christine McKenzie's (YPLS) delicious tags and found a list of the 100 most viewed web 2.0 sites (movers 2.0) which was intersting and of course there were no surprises for me, having a teenage boy I can confirm that the most viewed site is Youtube, the xbox which was fried in the recent power surge has hardly been missed. I will definately go back to this site as I found one called podomatic...which looked interesting....I can only assume if these sites are popular there must be a reason and I must take a closer look...Still confused about the usefulness, I know delicious has been used at Brimbank to index useful sites, but I still find it confusing the you-tube explaination helped as it clearly demonstrated how the tags are a way of categorizing your favourite/useful sites ???...must go Christmas is coming....http://www.shockwave-sound.com/sound-effects/christmas%20sounds/ghost-bells.wav

#rollyo 12

this is my 3rd attempt at adding something to my blog...Rollyo is useful especially the recipe sites..I made a "chainstore fashion" searchroll which will make checking up on what has come out in the shops a little quicker especially if I am pressed for time during lunch...however I dont' mind just searching the web as you can stumble across lots of other things...but when you want the best sites on a topic this handy!!

No 7 - Anything Technology

Well my green light moment came when I was reading the paper and they explained blu-ray technology. The good thing for those people who have their own DVD library is that they can still play their old DVD's on this new format. The article explained that currently the DVD's are standard format and that Blu-ray in high definintion format, and if you have a high definition TV you are not get full advantage of even the exsisting DVD's let alone the new Blu-ray ones. Currently this change in technology will not affect me as I have as standard $289 Kmart special TV and I don't have time to watch DVD's, but it is good to know in case the borrowers ask.

Week 18- Online Productiviy

well what an eye opener Zoho was, I particularly liked the you-tube vodcast of the explaination of the system. I am trying to come to terms with this ??This is the way of the future ...it makes email and word/excel seem old fashion. May need some hold handing at first to use it, but the possibilities are endless...so much to do ...so little time

Week 19- web 2.0 Awards

The pressure is on to complete the Web 2.0 23 things….so I took a dip in the Web 2.0 sea…What I have discovered is a really great site http://web2.0awards.com/ this lists the best websites in various categories…I could check this out all day….but must get back to work. What I found great was lulu which is a self publishing site...I have already passed on this information to my friend in the US who has self published her family history with reciepes from her mother and the family. Will have to get back to that one when I get time...

Week 7- Wiki

I know I am doing them all out of order but my defence is that I asked Christian and he said it was OK... I have had some exposure to Wiki's at work and assisting my daughter with research. however checking out the links was interesting especially library Success wiki which had some interesting information about outreach and marketing. I learnt a new word "hacks" ?? which is a way to share info.. it used to have a different meaning. I can see how the new library website is using the web 2 technology...I especially like the links to delicious...

Week 9 Podcasts, video & downloadable audo.

I am jumping around here a bit but i thought I would do the easy ones first. having 2 teenage children I am well aware of Youtube, as my sone often watches Collingwood highlights and my daughter watches band clips. Tried to upload a short video of Myron (the dog) answering me back when he was asked to go outside, but found that for the size of the file it would have taken about 1 1/2 hours to complete, even though it was only a 3 minute video, must ask Christian about that one.

Podcasts- well as the introduction says it includes video, but recently I heard Chris use the word vodcast...which I assume is video and audio. My friend from the US sent me a link to a radio station's website which had a podcast link of an interview with the author of one of the books I have read and is on my Blog Look me in the Eye by John Elder Robinson, so that was really exciting for me. I love the internet!!!!

Down loadable Audio Book Titles- Had a quick look at this it would be great for libraries and think of the savings in purchasing talking books, much more portable as well. the graphics on the story I checked out was really good....
